John Gibbon (drums) a resident of Hay-on Wye, has been involved in the Jazz scene since his youth and for many years ran a jazz night club which showcased the great acts of the day. John has toured the world being much in demand for his jazz drumming skills. He has brought depth to Black Lion Jazz as well as variety to our programme introducing some of his old friends like the Phil Mead Trio, Jim Mullen and Art Themen.

Guy Shotton is a talented young jazz pianist and has come to be a welcome performer on Jazz nights at The Old Black Lion. His music takes him all over the UK and Europe. Alongside performing he has worked as Assistant Musical Director with the Bristol Hippodrome Choir.

Ollie Blanchflower is our intense bassist and regular visitor to The Old Black Lion. Luckily for us he has retired from a busy life on the London Jazz scene to live locally.

Dayne Cranenburg (bass) lives close to Hay and is a well-known bassist. He has had a varied musical career playing with the band Gong at Glastonbury in the early 1980’s and as a session musician. He loves funk jazz and is a very popular character at Black Lion Jazz evenings.
